The Zang House Bed & BreakfastEstablished in 1797, the Zang House is the oldest home in Alliance. The house has entertained both President Ulysses S. Grant and President William McKinley. The 203-year-old Bed and Breakfast offers two Guest Rooms, Parlor, Dining Room, Pub Room and the old stone veranda for the exclusive use of our guests. The Zang House is a mile West of Mount Union College, with the additional nearby Attractions

The house was built on a land grant of Isaac Allen and later owned by Stacey Grant and uncle to President Ulysses S. Grant. Stacey Grant married and had a daughter, Maria who married Dr. Levi Leslie Lamborn. Dr. Lamborn, who cultivated flowers as a hobby, was nominated by the Democrats in 1876 to run for Congress against William McKinley. Before their debates, Dr. Lamborn presented to Mr. Mckinley a scarlet carnation boutonniere, which he raised. It became a symbol of good luck for McKinley throughout his political career, even to the Presidency of the United States. Because of this , the scarlet carnation became the Ohio State flower, and gave Alliance its nickname, the "Carnation City"
